Behave Yourself LLC is a small, BCBA-owned ABA practice providing home- and community-based services to children and families in southeastern Connecticut. I am looking for another RBT to join my small clinical team where consistency, good judgment, attention to detail, and actually knowing the child you work with matter. This is not a position where you will be handed a binder, told to “run programs,” and rarely see your supervisor. I am directly involved in my cases, overlap with staff regularly, review data and notes, make changes when something is not working, and expect RBTs to communicate with me. At the same time, I do not expect perfection. I do expect someone who is reliable, teachable, observant, willing to ask questions, and able to use feedback.

The Schedule

I am primarily looking for someone with consistent weekday afternoon/evening availability, ideally 4 or more days per week.

Most sessions begin around 3:00–4:00 PM, after school hours because many kiddos over age 3 are in school.

Current and anticipated needs include:

• Monday–Friday afternoons/evenings
• Saturday hours may also be available if you would like additional hours
• Approximately 12–20 hours per week, depending on availability and caseload

At Behave Yourself, I prefer to give RBTs consistent clients rather than constantly moving people between cases. If you are only available one scattered afternoon here and there, this probably will not be the right fit. If you are looking for a steady part-time caseload and want to know the children you work with well, keep reading.

Where You’ll Work

Services are primarily provided in clients' homes and community settings in the Connecticut shoreline/southeastern Connecticut area, generally between the Essex/Ivoryton area and Groton/Gales Ferry area.

You will need:

• A valid driver's license
• Reliable transportation
• Comfort driving to client homes
• Reliable attendance once you have committed to a schedule

Home-based ABA depends heavily on consistency. Families arrange their evenings around their child's services, so showing up when you say you will is important.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

You would work one-on-one with children who are receiving ABA services under my supervision. Depending on the child, you could work on things like:

• Communication and conversation
• Social interaction and play
• Flexibility and coping with changes
• Following routines and directions
• Independence and daily-living skills
• Tolerating delays or denied access
• Problem solving
• Community skills
• Reducing behavior that interferes with daily life

You will also:

• Collect accurate data
• Write objective, individualized session notes
• Implement behavior-support procedures as written
• Participate in regular supervision and overlap with the BCBA
• Communicate when something seems different, isn't working, or needs clarification
• Accept feedback and make changes based on that feedback

I care about why we are teaching something and whether it is actually improving a child's life—not simply whether a box can be checked in a treatment program. Sessions should look natural whenever possible. There may be structured teaching when it is useful, but ABA does not have to mean sitting at a table for three hours.

Attention to Detail Matters

This is important enough to have its own section.

RBT work involves noticing small things: what happened immediately before a behavior, whether a prompt was actually needed, whether the child responded independently, whether something in the environment changed, whether data accurately reflects what happened, and whether a treatment procedure is being implemented the way it was designed.

I review data and documentation and use that information to make clinical decisions.

So I am looking for someone who:

• Reads directions carefully
• Notices details
• Does not guess when they are unsure
• Can follow a written protocol accurately
• Takes data seriously
• Writes notes that actually describe the session
• Communicates mistakes or questions rather than hiding them
• Can hear, “Let's do this differently next time,” and adjust

You do not need to know everything before you start. You do need to care about doing the job correctly.

Who Would Be a Good Fit?

You may be a strong fit if you are:

• Dependable
• Genuinely comfortable interacting with children
• Patient without being passive
• Playful when the situation calls for it
• Calm during challenging behavior
• Curious about why behavior is happening
• Comfortable receiving frequent feedback
• Able to work independently while still staying in communication with me
• Professional in a family's home
• Able to maintain appropriate boundaries while still building a real relationship with the kiddo
• Someone who notices when something doesn't make sense and asks about it

I especially value people who can balance following the treatment plan with working with what's going on in the environment around them and the child's response to it.

Experience Preferred

• Current RBT certification
• Previous ABA experience
• Experience with children with autism or children with developmental disabilities
• Experience in behavioral health, special education, childcare, direct care, or a related field

Experience is helpful. Reliability, judgment, willingness to learn, and how you interact with children matter too.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 18 years old
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to complete required background checks and payer credentialing
• Ability to meet BACB requirements for RBT certification if not already certified
• Consistent availability for the schedule you agree to

A Little About Behave Yourself LLC

Behave Yourself LLC is intentionally small.

I want families to know who is working with their child, RBTs to have access to their BCBA, and treatment decisions to be based on the individual child rather than a standard package of programs.

I take supervision seriously. I will give feedback, change programs when they need to be changed, and expect staff to tell me what they are seeing during sessions.

I also want people to enjoy coming to work. If you want to learn, build strong clinical skills, work closely with a BCBA, and become a consistent part of a small team, this may be a good fit.
