Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Mechanical Analysis provides expertise and guidance in mechanical stress, part life estimation, and rotor dynamics vibration analysis, while managing a small team of analysts. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively guide and develop a team.

What You'll Do...

  • Demonstrated management experience, including the ability to organize tasks, set priorities, and motivate a team. Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments. Ability to foster a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Conduct regular 1 on1s with direct reports to maintain consistent workflow and high-quality output while continuously developing technical competencies
  • Plan, estimate, and track work across subsystems to provide clear insight into major roadblocks and milestone progress, ensuring alignment with an aggressive product delivery schedule
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work with the systems and program management organization integrated product team to develop schedules and task tracking to facilitate
  • Prior experience in mentoring or managing engineers in their technical development.
  • Oversee development of methods and standards in order to deliver consistent results and improve throughput
  • Ability to conduct the analysis and evaluation of turbomachinery components and assemblies using sound engineering principles while meeting industry standards and program requirements.  This includes evaluation of the effects of the overall system (maneuvers, dynamic modes, limit load cases, etc) on components and assemblies
  • Review for content and clarity engine system or component test programs from a hardware design perspective.  Additionally, review test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, as well as test plans to execute component validation
  • Serve as the analysis subject matter expert as part of a diverse system design team.  Support the design community to ensure products and sub-systems meet overall requirements from a design perspective.  Advocate for component durability while understanding the trade-offs and business decisions necessary to deliver the best overall solution.  Ensure that trade studies are conducted in order to meet product requirements with robust design.
  • Support direct reports during design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, controls, additive manufacturing, materials and system analysis among others
  • Oversee proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices
  • Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design.  Advise on ways to improve product design through the exploitation of additive manufacturing

You have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • At least 15 years of experience in gas turbine component design
  • Experience managing people is desired
  • Experience with stress and finite element analysis and apply knowledge using ANSYS Workbench and associated tools. Includes performing static, dynamic vibration, shock, plasticity, interference, thermal, contact, and fatigue analysis. 
  • Strong understanding of design software tools (CAD, ANSYS, etc)
  • Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
  • Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
