JOB DESCRIPTION: The High School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction that promotes students' understanding of history, government, economics, geography, and other social sciences. The teacher fosters critical thinking, civic responsibility, and effective communication skills while creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a valid High School Level License/Certification for teaching Social Studies.
- Ideal candidates will be certified to teach multiple social studies courses.
- Candidates with interest, experience, or certification in teaching Personal Finance and Economics are preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a classroom environment that promotes learning, engagement, and academic success.
- Establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior in a climate of fairness, respect, and inclusion.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction that develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while making content relevant and meaningful.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Collaborate with Social Studies colleagues to design and implement lessons aligned to Indiana Academic Standards and Employability Skills Standards.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
- Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student achievement and inform instructional decisions.
- Communicate proactively with parents, counselors, administrators, and other staff members regarding student academic and behavioral progress.
- Integrate technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, reliability, and appropriate supervision of students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities provided by the school corporation and professional organizations.
- Implement accommodations and supports outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and Section 504 Plans.
- Contribute positively to the school community and support the overall mission and goals of the school.
CONTRACT: 184 days
