Overview
Works in the Microbiology laboratory under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Scientists, assisting with some elements of clinical testing and set up, maintenance, inventory and other general duties.
Responsibilities
Wipe down all hoods and countertops and document. Check to make sure all temperatures were taken and alert tech if readings out of range. Check/Sub chocolate QC organisms. Enter Concentration/Grinding Charges in Cerner. Stock all benches/areas with all supplies for the day. Check supply of Thio Broth and prepare more if necessary. Discard old specimens. Check Miscellaneous Maintenance Calendar ¿ perform minor equipment maintenance and/or tasks each day as required. Perform Daily Maintenance on the BacT/Alert, ePlex, GeneXpert and Microscan. Set up Microscan Panels as they are ready. Manage and order inventory as needed, put away supplies, rotate stock. Initiate workup for positive blood cultures (pull bottle, make smears, plate to media). Setup of other specimens' cultures and slides, plating onto media. Stain any Gram stain smears. Load specimens on analyzers. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Will consider students currently enrolled in an accredited laboratory science program. Will consider associates and/or bachelor's degree graduates in chemistry or biological sciences.
