THIS IS AN INPATIENT ROLE.
Responsibilities
Inpatient Clinical Care
- Perform urology consults for ED and inpatient services
- Round daily on urology inpatients; develop and execute evidence-based care plans with supervising urologists.
- Manage pre- and post-operative care, including optimization, order sets, medication reconciliation, and discharge planning.
- Perform bedside urologic procedures as credentialed:
- Recognize and manage urologic emergencies (e.g., urosepsis, acute urinary retention, obstructive pyelonephritis) per protocols; treat and escalate appropriately.
- First Assist in operating room, as applicable.
- Collaborate with ED and OR scheduling to streamline urgent cases
- Coordinate imaging, interventional radiology procedures and timely follow-up.
- Facilitate safe, efficient discharges with clear patient education and follow-up plans.
- Utilize standardized order sets and care pathways; contribute to pathway optimization.
- Complete timely, accurate documentation, billing, and coding in the EMR ([Epic/Cerner/other]).
- Participate in morbidity and mortality review, peer review, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Uphold infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and catheter-associated UTI reduction strategies.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, procedures, and aftercare.
- Support resident/APC/bedside RN education on urologic protocols and bedside skills.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, equity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- NP: Master’s/Doctorate in Nursing; active RN and APRN license; national certification
- PA: Graduate of accredited program; active PA license; national certification.
- Ability to obtain/maintain state licensure, DEA, hospital privileges, and collaborative agreement/supervision as applicable.
- BLS
- Prior urology or surgical inpatient experience.
- Competence with urologic bedside procedures (difficult Foley, SPC management, bladder irrigation).
- Experience with [Epic/Cerner/Other] EMR.
- Strong skills in clinical decision-making, communication, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Inpatient or acute care experience (e.g., urology, surgery, surgical subspecialty, ED, or hospital medicine).
Experience In Hospital Or Acute Care Setting
- Clear Communication Skills Both Written And Verbal
- Knowledge Of Basic Computer Programs
- Able To Keep Confidential Information Regarding Patients, Team Members
- Able To Withstand Crisis Situations
- Has Skills To Provides Customer Service To Patients, Team Members And Visitors
- Knowledge And Experience With Electronic Health Records
- Current state license as a PA or NP with prescriptive authority and DEA registration.
- National board certification (NCCPA for PAs; ANCC or AANP for NPs).
- Acute Care certification (ACNP) is often required for NP roles in the inpatient setting.
