What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Programs position at Bee U NYC?
Bee U NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing environmental education, sustainability, and workforce development across New York City. We provide underrepresented communities with equitable access to hands-on learning opportunities in urban beekeeping, environmental stewardship, and green career pathways.
Our programs combine experiential education, leadership development, and environmental justice to prepare the next generation of environmental changemakers. Through initiatives such as the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship, the Green Jobs Pipeline, and school-based beekeeping and sustainability programs, Bee U NYC empowers youth and community members to engage with the environment, explore green jobs, and develop lifelong skills in conservation and advocacy.
Position Overview: This role will be one of two Co-Director of Programs positions. The Co-Director of Programs (Non-Schools) will lead Bee U NYC’s community-based programs, including the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship and the Green Jobs Pipeline. While the organization plans to hire a Co-Director of Programs (Schools) in the future, this role will initially take on some responsibilities of that yet-to-be-staffed school-based position, supporting coordination and facilitation in school-based settings when needed. As the team expands, responsibilities will shift toward a more strategic leadership role, with school-based program duties transitioning to the dedicated Co-Director of Programs (Schools).
This is a position overseeing program planning, staff supervision, partnership management, and strategic expansion across multiple boroughs. It is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven professional to help shape the future of experiential environmental education in New York City while mentoring youth and advancing equity in the green economy.
