Position Summary
The Food Service Coordinator leads efforts to recover surplus food from donors (grocers, restaurants, wholesalers, farms, and institutional partners) and ensure its safe and efficient distribution to people experiencing food insecurity. This role combines logistics, partner cultivation, volunteer coordination, and program evaluation. The Food services Coordinator manages daily operations, maintains strong donor relationships and supervise staff/volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
Program Operations & Logistics
- Oversee daily food rescue activities, including scheduling, routing, and transportation.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations for handling, storing, and distributing food.
- Assess available food and meal plan for various shelter locations
- Develop efficient systems for tracking food donations, pickups, and distribution outcomes.
- Support meal planning at the shelter sites to ensure 21 nutritious and culturally appropriate meals per week for sites that apply.
Partnership Development
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with food donors, distribution partners, and community agencies.
- Expand partnerships with grocery stores, restaurants, institutions, farms, and other stakeholders.
- Serve as the main point of contact for donor inquiries, ensuring excellent service and engagement.
Team Leadership & Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers involved in food rescue and distribution.
- Provide clear guidance on food safety, customer service, and program protocols.
- Foster a positive, mission-driven culture of teamwork and accountability.
Program Evaluation & Reporting
- Track metrics on pounds of food rescued, households served, and environmental impact (e.g., food waste diverted).
- Prepare reports for leadership, funders, and stakeholders.
- Use data to identify gaps, improve operations, and scale impact.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Represent the program at community events, donor site visits, and stakeholder meetings.
- Promote awareness of food rescue efforts and the importance of reducing food waste.
- Collaborate with other programs to strengthen wraparound services for clients.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
