What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at Bedrock Granite?
Job Overview
Bedrock Granite is seeking a skilled and precision-driven CNC Machine Operator to join our custom stone fabrication production team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating our computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to cut, shape, and profile granite, quartz, and marble slabs into high-end custom countertops, fireplaces, and architectural features.
You will work closely with our digital templating and final fabrication teams to ensure every custom project perfectly matches architectural drawings and site specifications.
Key Responsibilities
· Load digital cut files (DXF/AutoCAD) into the CNC control interface, verifying the tool path, point of origin, and processing parameters before starting the machine cycle.
· Run complex cut schedules, edge profiles, sink cutouts, and polishing cycles according to exact project blueprints.
· Cross-check raw slab materials against digital layouts, physical templates, and job sheets to verify exact colors, vein directions, and dimension parameters before cutting.
· Perform micro-measurements and visual inspections on the first cuts to ensure compliance with quality assurance tolerances.
· Complete internal Quality Control (QC) tracking logs and record completion metrics at the end of each production shift.
· Perform essential preventative maintenance on the CNC equipment, including cleaning the workspace, checking fluid levels, and maintaining water recycling/filtration components.
· Monitor tooling wear, change out bits, calibrating tools, and flag technical errors or required mechanical interventions immediately.
· Maintain strict compliance with safety guidelines, including using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) for dust control, wet-cutting systems, and safe heavy-lifting practices.
Role Requirements
· Minimum of 2 years of dedicated experience operating multi-axis CNC routers, bridgesaws, or waterjets, preferably within the stone fabrication, tile, or countertop production industry.
· Proficiency in reading blueprints, shop drawings, and interpreting 2D/3D design templates.
· Solid understanding of CNC interfaces, tool calibration, and file inputs.
· Basic understanding of physical stone mechanics (vein layout, checking for fissures/natural weak points).
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and stand or move for the duration of an 8-hour shift in an active manufacturing environment.
· Experience operating forklifts or overhead gantry cranes is a strong plus.
