What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil/Structural Engineer position at Bedford Reinforced Plastics?
You can bring your engineering skills to our team while still working from home. Minimum of three years of composite experience preferred, but not required. Occasional travel may be needed. Responsibilities include:
- Structural engineering analysis and design of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) structures.
- Perform structural analysis of FRP systems using Finite Element Analysis tools. The structural analysis will include sizing of structural members and design of structural connections.
- Prepare design sketches for the drafters and check approval drawings for compliance with the design.
- Prepare complete calculation packages that document the design basis and structural analysis.
- Participate in material testing and prepare test reports.
- Provide technical assistance to the organization as needed.
- Communicate with existing and potential clients in determining their needs and in order to develop efficient and economical structural designs.
Skills needed include:
- Thorough knowledge of civil/structural engineering design using governing codes and standards.
- Ability to use ACAD, CREO and RISA-3D software, MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), Bedford’s one number filing system, and to find sales specific documents on the server.
- Knowledge of raw materials and the pultrusion process with the ability to apply that knowledge in the design of FRP structures.
- Applicable knowledge of the engineering specifications, drawings, and properties of the products that Bedford provides with the ability to advise external customers and/or internal groups on the use and design of applications using Bedford products.
- Applicable knowledge of the design limits of Bedford products with the ability to articulate those limits to internal and external groups.
- Demonstrate professional communication skills in person, on the telephone, and in writing.
- Exhibit the ability to make informed decisions based on the three levers (revenue, inventory, O.E.) to ensure Bedford the best chance at profitability.
