Purpose: To serve as the educational leader, responsible for supervising the students and staff, assisting the principal with implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Trimble County Board of Education to ensure that all students meet or exceed the state core curriculum content standards; to work collaboratively with the administration to lead and nurture members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents and members of the community. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for discipline of students, supervision of staff, curriculum development, program evaluation and supervision of extracurricular activities.
Reports To: Principal
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree or higher and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position.
- At least three – five (3 - 5) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, and telecommunications.
- The ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.
Specific Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
- Organize, manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the entire school consistent with the vision, mission, values and goals of the school and district, including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, discipline systems, financial management, personnel management, and community relations.
- Supervise instructional programs assigned by the principal, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
- Encourage the use of and instruct teachers in the use of strategies and tasks that require critical thinking, problem solving and creativity, inquiry, and a variety of methods for students to demonstrate performance and achievement.
- Assist the principal with curriculum development, program evaluation, allocation of instructional materials and resources, and coordination of activities of departments, ensuring that curriculum is current and addresses the state core curriculum content standards.
- Recommend opportunities for effective professional development that address the needs of the instructional programs and needs of the staff, including workshops, conferences, visitations, and sessions in which the staff shares successful practices and strategies.
- Assist with the organization and supervision of a comprehensive program of athletics, extracurricular, and co-curricular activities to complement and support the curriculum content standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
- All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual evaluation plan and professional growth plan.
Personnel Management
- Supervise certified and non-certified personnel assigned by the principal to ensure that all job responsibilities are met and exceeded.
- Ensure that personnel evaluation procedures are accomplished in a fair and consistent manner that encourages accountability, growth and excellence, in accordance with the Certified Evaluation Plan and Board Policy.Student Discipline and Safety
- Provide and supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards in accordance with due process and other laws and regulations, ensuring a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior.
- Counsel students and work closely with parents to help students to assume responsibility for behavior and understand the consequences of their decisions.
- Supervise, and provide supervision for non-classroom areas as assigned.
- Supervise class activities, including evening activities, and share in the supervision of school-wide activities, athletic events, etc. as assigned on a rotating basis.
- Assure due process in carrying out the discipline code.
- File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance and discipline matters in a timely fashion.Plant Security and Improvement
- Assist the principal and the staff to create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic, and thermal environments.
- Regularly inspect all facilities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations including access for individuals with handicapping conditions.Professional
- Establish a professional rapport with students and with staff that earns their respect.
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
- Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
- Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff.
- Meet regularly with the administrative staff of the school to discuss the operation of the school, identify needs and report on successes.
- Assist the principal with administrative functions of the school as assigned by the principal, including facilities management and scheduling, student activities, school safety and security, emergency procedures, instructional field trips, assembly and special programs, and other areas.
- Provide regular opportunities for students to celebrate success in instructional programs and extracurricular activities, and inform parents and the community of the accomplishments of students, staff, and the school.
- Communicate regularly will parents, seeking their support and advice, creating a cooperative relationship to support their child in school.
- Use effective communication and presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents and the community.
- Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or as requested by Superintendent or designee.
- Answer correspondence promptly.
- Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
- Attend regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
- Carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue monitoring and checking.
- Adhere to the Trimble County Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
