JOB SUMMARY:
Coordinates, oversees and provides daily quality treatment and care of Residents according to Physicians’ Orders; primarily responsible for prevention and treatment of skin breakdown and pressure ulcers; must exhibit sincere interest to work with elderly and be able to develop and sustain the cooperation of others; must communicate courteously with Employees, Residents and others
QUALIFICATIONS:
RN License in good standing in the State of Mississippi; prefer experience in Long-Term Care Nursing with comprehensive knowledge of Nursing techniques and their relation to medical practices, skills and application, with thorough knowledge of principles and practices of Long-Term Care; must have good planning and organization skills; must pass drug screens and have a satisfactory Criminal History Background Check
Reviews and updates Resident’s Care Plan with progress or decline of wounds and/or Pressure Ulcers
Assumes position of Charge Nurse on unit as needed or requested
Provides treatment to Residents according to Physicians’ Orders
Monitors and treats Residents’ skin problems; notifies DON of any increase in skin problems
Assesses Residents’ Decubitus (pressure ulcers); records observations and stage of wounds weekly, or sooner as needed
Provides information regarding all Residents to RN Supervisor regarding any changes in condition and care
Notifies Physician if new Orders are indicated or needed; notifies Physician and family as needed
Charts information at least weekly regarding progress and observations of wounds and Pressure Ulcers
Schedules treatments at times convenient for the Resident
Orders treatment supplies from the Pharmacy and Central Supply following Bedford Wound Care Protocol
Observes, monitors and provides instructions for Nursing Staff and Nurse Aides
Provides in-service training programs as requested
Provides reports requested by Director of Nursing or Administrator
Communicates with co-workers at all levels to adequately meet the needs of the Residents
Ensures that bedridden patients are turned at least every two hours
Looks for and reports pressure areas to prevent the development of decubitus and provides skin care
Assists during Admission identifying Residents at risk of developing skin problems or decline in condition
