Mechanical Engineer II

 

Beckwood, headquartered in Fenton, Missouri, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of custom hydraulic presses and automation equipment and is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our engineering team and contribute to the design and development of advanced manufacturing equipment. In this role, you will design machine structures and powered motion systems, develop 3D models and manufacturing drawings, and support the integration of hydraulic and electro-mechanical components into complex machinery.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including production, controls, sales, and service to ensure designs are manufacturable, reliable, and aligned with customer requirements. What You`ll Be Doing:

Mechanical Engineers are responsible for designing structures and implementing powered motion systems used on various types of machinery. The employee will be accountable for creating 3D models of equipment, drafting prints for manufacturing, and integration of hydraulic designs of normal to increasing complexity with moderate to light supervision.

  • Must be comfortable working with production team members to implement their designs
  • Structural
    • Design equipment structures in an effective manner, both in terms of time and cost
    • Design weldments used as the frame of the machine or as a part for further machining
    • Generate prints used to fabricate and machine components per industry standards
    • Generate bill of material (BOM) and upload to ERP system
    • Setup, run and understand results of FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Hydraulic
    • Demonstrate a working, foundational understanding of hydraulic systems
    • Assist Hydraulic Engineers with circuit development, component selection, and documentation.
  • Electro Mechanical Design
    • Design motion equipment implementing ball screw, planetary roller screw and belt driven actuators.
    • Work with vendors and electrical team to size servo motors and other power transmission onents required for these systems
    • Create accurate modeling of components and accessories.
      • Generate bill of material (BOM) and upload to ERP system
  • GD&T
    • Understand different dimensioning and tolerancing methods on prints
    • Interpret tolerance stack-ups and effects
    • Understand and minimize cost implications of tolerance and machining methods
  • Design Review
    • Proof designs created by less experienced engineers or in peer review
    • Receive and incorporate feedback in designs based on peer review
    • Participate in design review meetings, drill downs, etc.
    • Make sure all criteria are met by comparing specifications and quotes to design
    • Be able to troubleshoot hydraulic systems during startup with a Controls Engineer
  • Communication
    • Work with production leads during start-up of new projects
    • Keep management informed of project progress
    • Work to meet milestone deadlines
    • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines
    • Effectively participate in meetings with customers
    • Work collaboratively with non-engineering departments (Purchasing, Sales, Estimating, Service, Production)
    • Develop mentoring skills to help promote and grow knowledge and skill sets within the engineering team.
    • Communicate effectively with vendors to solve problems and improve designs as required.
  • Support Service team with warranty and non-warranty troubleshooting as required
Qualifications:

What We’re Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, most commonly Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5–7 years of relevant industry experience may be considered in place of a bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software is required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively participate in a collaborative, cross-functional work environment

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a professional office environment but includes occasional time in the manufacturing facility to support projects and collaborate with production teams. While in the plant, employees may be exposed to typical manufacturing conditions such as machinery operation and moderate noise levels.

 

Physical Demands

This role primarily operates in a professional office environment, requiring the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while occasionally moving about to access office equipment and files. Additionally, the position occasionally requires moving throughout the manufacturing floor to position oneself for equipment inspection or maintenance. This includes ascending/descending and working atop ladders or elevated platforms, as well as accessing machinery at varying heights, including ground level.
