Engagement Duration: Project-based (approximately 12–14 weeks, aligned with project timeline). MUST have experience conducting "Municipal" compensation studies.
ROLE OVERVIEW
BeckThom HR Consulting will engage a Compensation & Classification Analyst as a planned hire to support the successful delivery of this compensation and Classification study for the City of Des Plaines, Illinois. This is contingent upon contract award. MUST have experience conducting "Municipal" compensation studies.
This role will support a comprehensive market-based analysis of compensation and classification for a public-sector workforce of approximately 1,200 employees. The Analyst will assist in compensation data analysis, market benchmarking, and financial modeling support to inform the development of equitable and competitive pay structures.
The position is designed to support the project team in delivering high-quality, data-driven insights aligned with public-sector compensation practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Compensation Analysis
· Support the review and evaluation of current compensation structures, job classifications, and salary data across departments
· Assist in organizing, cleaning, and validating workforce compensation datasets
· Contribute to internal equity analysis, including identification of pay compression and alignment issues
Market Benchmarking
· Conduct research and analysis of compensation data from comparable public-sector entities (counties, municipalities, and similar organizations)
· Compile and analyze market data to support the development of competitive salary ranges
· Assist in preparing benchmarking summaries and supporting documentation
Financial & Analytical Support
· Assist in the development and maintenance of Excel-based compensation and cost models
· Support financial impact analysis for proposed compensation adjustments, including multi-year implementation scenarios
· Provide structured data inputs to support pay band development and cost projections
Reporting & Deliverables
· Prepare tables, charts, and analytical summaries for inclusion in client deliverables
· Support the development of reports and presentation materials for County leadership and stakeholders
· Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality across all analytical outputs
Team Collaboration
· Work closely with BeckThom HR Consulting leadership and project team members
· Collaborate with financial strategy and compensation subject matter experts
· Participate in internal working sessions, project meetings, and quality review processes
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive market research and salary surveys to develop competitive compensation structures.
- Administer salary administration programs using systems such as Workday, Dayforce, or Oracle HCM, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze compensation data to identify trends, disparities, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support benefits administration processes related to employee compensation packages, including FMLA, workers' compensation, and HIPAA compliance.
- Collaborate with HR partners on employee evaluation processes and employee relations initiatives related to compensation matters.
- Prepare regulatory reporting documentation in accordance with employment & labor law requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of incentive plans, bonus structures, and contractual agreements.
Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
