Job Title: Piano Instructor (Private Lessons / Music School)Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and patient Piano Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate is an accomplished pianist with a strong background in music education, excellent communication skills, and a genuine love for teaching students of all ages and skill levels (beginner through advanced). This role involves providing high-quality, engaging private or group piano lessons in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individualized piano lessons tailored to each student’s goals, learning style, and pace (classical, jazz, pop, contemporary, theory, technique, etc.)
- Develop and implement structured lesson plans and select appropriate repertoire
- Teach fundamental and advanced music theory, sight-reading, ear training, scales, improvisation, and performance skills
- Prepare students for recitals, exams (RCM, ABRSM, etc.), competitions, or auditions as applicable
- Track student progress, provide constructive feedback, and communicate regularly with students and parents/guardians
- Foster a positive, motivating atmosphere that encourages musical growth and enjoyment
- Stay current with pedagogical methods and incorporate technology when beneficial (apps, recording software, etc.)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Piano Performance, Music Education, or equivalent professional experience (Master’s degree preferred but not required)
- Minimum 3–5 years of successful piano teaching experience with students of varying ages and levels
- Advanced proficiency on the piano with a strong performance background
- Solid knowledge of music theory, pedagogy, and a wide range of piano repertoire across genres
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to connect with children, teens, and adults
- Patient, enthusiastic, reliable, and punctual
- Experience preparing students for graded exams (RCM, ABRSM, Trinity, etc.) is a strong asset
- Background check required (especially when working with minors)
Preferred Additional Skills
- Proficiency in additional instruments or voice
- Experience teaching jazz, improvisation, composition, or music production
- Ability to accompany vocalists or instrumentalists is a plus
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time / Full-time / Contractor position (flexible hours, including evenings and weekends)
- Compensation:-competitive hourly rate or lesson-based pay commensurate with experience and qualifications (range or specific rate can be added here)
