Overview
This leadership position is a critical team member of the Becket Day Camp, serving as an instrumental leader of camp alongside ethe Camp Director. This position is responsible for the care, safety, and supervision of camp environments, staff, and campers. This person will play a role in all aspects of summer camp operations and will provide support to al counselors and program staff. The planning, preparation, organization and administrative duties of camp is a requirement of the Assistant Director in conjunction with the Camp Director.
Becket Day Camp Assistant Director is expected to arrive on June 12th and must be able to work through August 22nd, 2026 or later unless otherwise agreed upon.
Responsibilities
- Abide by and ensure others adhere to camp policies and procedures
- Serve as a positive role model
- Provide support as needed to Camp Director
- Ensure a high level of standards in all activities, themes and events
- Assist with the behavioral needs of campers
- Motivate campers and staff to ensure mutual support and group-building during camp
- Assist with check-in and check-out
- Help supervise campers during lunch time
- Participate in pre/post camp interactions and communication with parents/caregivers
- Communicate regularly with Camp Director on all relevant camp matters
- Participate in pre-camp staff training
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Prior experience with one of our programs or with another camp program preferred
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated level of maturity and ability to handle all aspects of the job description and potential challenges.
- Experience supervising staff in a professional setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with youth and people of all ages
- Ability to interact with adults and co-workers in a positive and professional manner
- Be able to work with staff and children in the outdoors, in varying weather conditions, administering and participating in all camp activities, some of which may be physically demanding.
- Ability to be creative and flexible
- First Aid/CPR/Lifeguard Certified preferred but will provide certification to applicants who are available to participate in extended training and who have the skills and ability to complete the training,
- Have excellent communication and organizational skills, confidence and willingness to interact in a positive and motivational manner with staff, campers, and families.
