Position Summary

Bechtel Medical is a fast-paced, early-stage startup developing next-generation medical equipment (DME) and advanced wound care technologies. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design, develop, and improve mechanical components and systems used in Bechtel Medical’s DME product lines. This role supports new product development, product enhancements, and manufacturing optimization. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with hands-on problem-solving skills and a passion for creating products that make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for medical device and DME products using CAD tools.
  • Develop prototypes, conduct feasibility studies, and support design verification and validation (V&V) activities.
  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selection to optimize product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

Manufacturing & Process Support

  • Collaborate with production teams to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including CAD drawings, BOMs, specifications, test protocols, and work instructions.
  • Design and support tooling, fixtures, and equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test processes.

Testing & Compliance

  • Conduct mechanical testing, engineering analyses, root cause investigations, and failure analysis activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable FDA regulations, ISO standards, and internal quality system requirements.

·       Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (DFMEA/PFMEA), and product development activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with quality, regulatory, supply chain, and production teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Communicate engineering decisions clearly and effectively to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

·       Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to new product innovation and process optimization efforts.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in medical devices, DME, or regulated manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred) and engineering documentation best practices.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes including machining, plastics, and sheet metal fabrication.

Ability to analyze complex problems, develop practical solutions, and execute projects independently.


Preferred

  • Experience with FDA‑regulated products or ISO quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical systems, pneumatics, ergonomics, or fluid handling systems.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, FEA, GD&T, or DFM/DFMA methodologies.
  • Familiarity with risk management and design control tools including DFMEA and PFMEA.
