Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising laboratory operations. This includes conducting and interpreting complex microbiological tests.
Main Responsibilities
- Conducts purchasing, budget tracking, and inventory management for the laboratory.
- Manages activities of assigned staff, oversees or conducts training, new team member orientations, workload, and scheduling.
- Maintains laboratory equipment, tracks routine maintenance and quality controls, oversees quality assurance procedures, ensures safety compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Measures and monitors key performance areas of the laboratory, recommends ways to promote continuous quality improvement, customer service, and team member satisfaction.
- Disposed hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality, complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations, company rules, policies, and procedural manuals.
Certifications and Qualifications
- Licenses and certifications as required by state.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of CLIA regulations regarding proficiency testing, quality assurance and quality control.
- Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures, equipment, and of microbiology, including medical mycology, mycobacteriology, enteric, sexually transmitted, and environmental bacteriology, parasitology, and virology.
- Knowledge of planning, budgeting, quality control, customer service, and supervision.
- Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff, knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Skill in using computer programs and applications/LIS/ Point of Care devices.
- Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests and operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in microbiology, medical terminology, or health sciences required.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of five years experience in progressively responsible positions in laboratory, including two years of supervisory experience.
