Special Education teachers in the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) program at Beaver Brook Elementary School provide highly structured, therapeutic, and individualized services to students with IEPs who have significant social-emotional, behavioral, and learning needs. In this substantially separate setting, the teacher serves as case manager and instructional leader, facilitating the IEP process and developing data-driven academic and behavioral goals while designing and implementing individualized curriculum and supports aligned to each student’s profile. The role includes continuous progress monitoring, collaboration with paraprofessionals, related service providers, behavior specialists, and families, and delivering instruction within the TLC classroom with opportunities for supported inclusion, using evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions.
