Position Summary
Responsible for successful and efficient planning, purchasing, and inventory awareness of components and raw materials used in the manufacturing of personal care products. The position works with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers.
Works in conjunction with and in support of senior purchasing staff (Buyer II, Buyer III, and Purchasing Manager) in the tactical and strategic procurement of assigned commodities. Gathers and analyzes inventory levels and production system demands, generating quotations, and preparing purchase orders for procurement of materials.
Learns all basic purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures such as non-disclosure, request for quotation, agency, and the contractual relationship.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Complete and distribute purchase orders to suppliers.
- Obtain written acknowledgement(s) and compare to original purchase order(s).
- Compile records of items purchased, including prices, deliveries, and inventories.
- Assist Buyer II, Buyer III, and Purchasing Manager on additional tasks as assigned.
- With oversight by the senior purchasing staff, analyze the component(s), material(s), and develop or recommend ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
- Accompany Purchasing Team during meetings with suppliers, develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with suppliers.
Technical Skills Required
- Experience with MRP reporting is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Competent with computer software, such as Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and a quick learner.
- Detailed oriented and committed to success of individuals and overall projects.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time.
Experience Required
- 0 to 2 years in Purchasing for Beauty/Personal Care, Food, Health, and/or pharmaceutical industry.
- Bachelor Degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
- The employee may be asked to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Works inside in an open office environment: must be available to work 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles, electrical, chemicals and moving parts.
- Prolonged use of computer screen.
