Position Summary
An Engineering Lab Technician supports product development by executing repeatable lab tests, maintaining equipment, and documenting results. This role partners closely with Engineering, Quality, and cross-functional teams to generate accurate, timely data that informs design decisions, performance targets, and compliance requirements. This is a temporary-to-full-time opportunity, offering the chance to grow into a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, execute, and troubleshoot laboratory tests to support product development R&D testing, prototype testing, benchmarking, and investigations.
- Operate common measurement and data-collection equipment (e.g., temperature/heat mapping, airflow/velocity, force/torque/drag, noise/vibration, electrical measurements) following approved procedures.
- Conduct hands-on lab testing by preparing samples, verifying test readiness, executing test runs, monitoring conditions, and capturing accurate data in real time to ensure repeatable, high-quality results
- Build and modify test fixtures and rigs; assist with prototype build modifications using hand tools and basic fabrication methods.
- Maintain detailed test documentation including test plans, data sheets, photos, observations, and summary reports; ensure results are traceable and reproducible.
- Calibrate, maintain, and coordinate repairs for lab instruments and fixtures; maintain calibration/maintenance logs.
- Assist with safety and reliability testing (including failure-mode testing) under engineering direction.
- Communicate test status, issues, and findings to engineers and stakeholders; participate in design/test reviews as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certificate in Engineering Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
- 2 years of hands-on experience in an engineering lab, test lab, manufacturing test, quality lab, or similar technical environment (internship/co-op may count) strongly preferred.
- Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements with strong attention to detail.
- Experience using basic hand tools and measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Basic understanding of measurement principles, data integrity, and repeatability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data entry, charts, and reporting.
- Ability to lift and move typical lab items (e.g., equipment, samples) and work on your feet in a lab/shop environment.
Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
