Summary Objective
The Human Services Intern provides entry-level support to a non-clinical human services program serving individuals and families with basic needs, housing instability, benefits navigation, transportation barriers, employment needs, and other social service concerns. Under staff supervision, the intern assists with client contacts, follow-up, resource coordination, digital file organization, policy review, training research, and general program support.
Examples of Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Must be a currently enrolled student preferably interested in human services, social work, public health, psychology, nonprofit work, public administration or community services. This position does not provide clinical counseling, independent case management, crisis intervention or eligibility determination. All client-related work is completed under staff supervision.
Supplemental Information
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation. Beaufort County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

- Assist with client follow-up calls, appointment reminders, check-ins, and basic service updates.
- Help document client contacts, referrals, outcomes, and follow-up needs in accordance with program procedures.
- Organize and maintain digital client files, referral records, resource lists, forms, and program documents.
- Research community resources, service providers, eligibility requirements, and training opportunities for staff and partner agencies.
- Assist with reviewing program policies, procedures, forms, and client materials for clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
- Support referral tracking, data entry, report preparation, and other administrative tasks related to client services.
- Participate in staff meetings, staffing discussions, trainings, and community partner coordination when appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and respectful communication with clients, staff, and partner agencies.
