What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Maintenance Technician position at Beaufort County?
JOB Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and surrounding grounds addressed through work orders to include electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, cabinetry, HVAC, masonry, and concrete repairs. Electrical work includes running computer cable, changing fluorescent tubes and ballasts, changing light switches and receptacles, and changing exit lights, which includes lights located in the jail. Plumbing work includes resealing, replacing flush valves, unclogging toilets and sinks, replacing flush handles, plumbing snake, etc. Carpentry duties include building projects by blueprints or drawings, replacing ceiling tiles, sanding, painting, staining, and varnishing. Other duties include keying and door adjustments, setting up rooms for various functions, moving and repairing furniture, reviewing and completion of various records and reports such as work orders, blueprints, and material lists. Position requires interpretation of policy and procedure manuals, codes, laws, and regulations as related to this job. Additional job duties include removal of debris from sidewalks and ramps, cleaning of building gutters and roofs to prevent leaks, placement, and removal of County emblems on vehicles, and stocking janitorial supplies. This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and is required to participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day. May be required to perform additional duties in the event of an emergency. New duties as they apply or change as maintenance adapts to new work and changes.

Must be able to operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pressure washer, air compressor, rental truck with hydraulic lift, pickup truck, table saw, bench drill press, compound miter saw, hand circular saw, hand drill, hammer, tape measure, and level. Must be capable of working with supplies such as plywood, plumbing fixtures, concrete, and glass. Must be able to operate a computer to utilize various software such as Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.), work order management, and HVAC system controls. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights up to 100 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Must be able to work individually or with other technicians when necessary. Must be able to interact with various groups and individuals such as department heads, supervisors, co-workers, judges, lawyers, District Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioners, County Manager, and the general public.
