What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Control Officer position at Beaufort County South Carolina?
The purpose of this position is to enforce county ordinances and laws regarding animals through the governance of the licensing, impounding, and treatment of animals. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Monitors the maintenance and operation of the Animal Control facility, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
- Keeps current of and enforces codes and ordinances regarding vaccinations, licenses, and leash laws.
- Issues citations for violations.
- Investigates and handles complaints from the public.
- Responds to emergency calls.
- Patrols the county for stray or dangerous animals.
- Assists in setting up clinics and works with school officials, vets, and the public.
- Transports, catches, holds, and observes animals.
- Enforces other applicable animal regulations and disposes of deceased animals correctly.
- Performs related work as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Over one month and up to and including three months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Salary : $21 - $28
