What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health and Safety Technician position at Beaufort County School District?
POSITION PURPOSE: The Health and Safety Technician works to support the Director of Risk Management to identify, evaluate, and eliminate safety hazards. This position also collaborates with district leadership to promote a culture of safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports the implementation of district safety programs.
- Assists in safety training for staff, students and community members.
- Supports Director of Risk Management with Vector Solutions online training platform.
- Conducts safety in (Indoor Air Quality, OSHA, Chemical Lab Safety, etc.) as directed to identify, analyze, and assess risks.
- Performs audits, assessments, and participates in safety meetings as directed.
- Investigates incidents and near misses; suggests changes and recommends corrective actions to Director of Risk Management.
- Monitors student drug testing at schools.
- Supports the BCSD Reunification process.
- Records data and compiles statistical analysis reports as directed.
- Assists the Crisis Prevention Specialist and Director of Risk Management as needed.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Risk Management, Chief Administrative and Human Resources officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management, or related field (preferred) -or- high school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years or more of relevant experience and safety-related training.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
Preferred Qualifications - Must hold or be able to obtain:
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- ASP, OHST, or similar credential.
- Instructor certifications for CPR/First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and Narcan.
- Experience with learning management systems, especially Vector Solutions.
- Experience in K12 or multi-site safety programs.
