Job Description: Assistant Director of Nursing Services

Job Title: AssistantDirector of Nursing Services
Department: Nursing
Reports To: Nursing Home Administrator; Regional Nurse Consultant; Director of Nursing

Position Purpose
The primary purpose of this job position is to assist the director of nursing to plan, organize, develop and direct the operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure that the highest quality of resident care is maintained at all times.

Job Requirements

1. Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and have an active nursing license in good standing with no restrictions as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with privileges to work in the state of operation;

2. Two years of nursing experience is preferred, with some of that experience in a long-term care facility;

3. Must provide all necessary documentation in accordance with the company’s new hire process to evidence eligibility for employment, including passing a criminal background check;

4. Must complete new hire orientation as required by company policy and participate in continuing education such as in-services, training, etc.;

5. Must possess excellent management, leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and work well with others;

6. Must possess excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills;

7. Must possess the ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing;

8. Must be proficient in the use of technology, including and especially the use of computers;

9. Must be willing to follow all federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as company policies and procedures and abide by the employee handbook, including but not limited to dress and grooming standards, time and attendance standards, drug and alcohol policy, respect and courtesy towards others, etc.;

10. Must have flexibility and availability to work outside of standard business hours, including on-call shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays;

11. Must participate in and respond professionally to surveys and inspections conducted by government agencies;

12. Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with the standard work and essential functions of a nurse, including standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting/carrying in excess of 30 pounds, or be able to be reasonably accommodated for any limitations;

13. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress inherent to the position, including working daily with residents in the geriatric, mentally ill, dementia, and disabled populations;

14. Must be able to perform assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and oversight and develop awareness for and a willingness to perform other tasks, as needed, without constant supervision;

15. Must help foster and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, cheerfulness, enthusiasm and compassion, giving residents the quality of service you would want to receive.

Nature and Scope

The Assistant Director of Nursing Services reports to the Nursing Home Administrator, Regional Nurse Consultant and Director of Nursing. Reporting to this position are: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nurse Assistants.

The Assistant Director of Nursing Services' primary responsibility is to assist the Director of Nursing in carrying out the function of provision of quality nursing care on a 24-hour basis to the residents of the facility in accordance with federal, state and local standards and regulations.

The Assistant Director of Nursing Services helps enforce the implementation of nursing service objectives, policies and procedures. The incumbent may be responsible to assist with in-service educational programs and on-going staff development to ensure all staff follow best standards of practice and assuring that there is compliance with the regulations pertaining to care plans and resident assessments.

The Assistant Director of Nursing Services may be responsible for managing clinical systems of the facility and participating as the lead committee member for these systems as delegated by the Director of Nursing. The Assistant Director of Nursing Services is responsible to ensure that committee recommendations are carried out for all clinical systems which he/see manages. The Assistant Director of Nursing works with ancillary service providers such as the pharmacy and lab/diagnostic companies to ensure the services being provided meet the needs of the facility and the residents and the services are in compliance with all federal, state and local guidelines and regulations.

Summary of Principal Accountabilities

Assist with implementation of nursing service objectives, policies and procedures to maintain quality nursing care and ensure all federal, state and local guidelines and regulations are followed at all times. Assist with developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program with corrective plans of action as needed for the nursing department under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

Assist with overseeing the nursing staff schedules, performing nursing staff performance evaluations and nursing staff training upon hire and ongoing in-service education programs to promote staff development as directed by the Director of Nursing.

Assist with administrative functions in the Nursing Department including hiring/termination of nursing personnel, management of clinical systems, coordination of the admission and discharge process from the clinical perspective, nursing supply ordering and equipment monitoring/maintenance, monitoring nursing related expenditures, etc. as directed by the Director of Nursing.

Collaborate with other facility departments and ancillary service providers (pharmacy, lab, etc.) to coordinate provision of care.

Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
