Field Service Supervisor

Location: Rensselaer, NY 12144

Schedule: Monday–Friday | Hours may vary between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM

Employment Type: One-Year Contract-to-Hire

Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 annually DOE

Travel: Approximately 50% regional travel

Our client is a leading provider of smart transportation and public-safety technology. The organization partners with municipalities and government agencies to install, maintain, and support advanced traffic-monitoring and automated safety systems, including red-light, speed, and roadway camera technology.


We are seeking an experienced Field Service Supervisor to lead a team of approximately 8–12 field service technicians supporting electronic and electromechanical traffic-safety systems throughout the region.

This is a hands-on leadership position combining team supervision, field support, technical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, scheduling, reporting, and budget oversight. The ideal candidate will have previous field service leadership experience, a strong technical background, and the flexibility to travel throughout the assigned region.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and support a team of approximately 8–12 field service technicians
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions
  • Assign daily service calls and schedule technicians according to system priorities and client needs
  • Conduct daily system checks and monitor system performance, preventative maintenance completion, and uptime
  • Ensure service levels and system availability meet contractual requirements
  • Spend approximately 50% of the workweek traveling throughout the region to provide onsite field support
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, hardware, software, and system-related issues
  • Develop, maintain, and improve preventative maintenance procedures
  • Provide regular operational, service, and performance-status reports
  • Manage department expenses, staffing levels, overtime, and technician hours
  • Monitor parts and equipment inventory and submit required monthly inventory reports
  • Train, evaluate, and provide technical guidance to field service employees
  • Approve employee timecards, travel requests, and business expenses
  • Promote a safe, accountable, and customer-focused work environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of field service supervisory or team-lead experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and evaluate technical employees
  • Strong electrical, electronic, or electromechanical troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Comfortable working outdoors and providing hands-on support in the field
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical education or certification is a plus


Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and reliable transportation
  • Ability to successfully complete required drug and background screenings
  • Ability to travel throughout the region, including on short notice when necessary
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, overnight shifts, or adjusted hours based on operational needs
