POSITION SUMMARY

The Water System Technician / Operator Trainee is an entry-level position responsible for assisting

with the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of the Bear River Water Conservancy

District's water systems. The employee will work alongside experienced staff to learn all aspects

of water system operations while helping ensure the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to

customer agencies and residents throughout Box Elder County.

This position is intended for a candidate with the right attitude, work ethic, and willingness to

learn. Prior water system experience is preferred but not required. BRWCD is willing to train the

right individual who demonstrates dependability, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to

contribute positively to a close-knit team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

satisfactorily. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist with the operation and maintenance of wells, springs, pumping stations, meter stations,

storage facilities, treatment plants and other water system infrastructure.

Collect water quality samples and maintain required operational records.

Assist in filing reports and maintaining compliance with State drinking water

regulations.

Respond to Blue Stakes requests.

Read and verify water meters.

Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of meters and related equipment.

Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and partner agencies.

Assist with maintenance of District facilities, grounds, vehicles, tools, and

equipment.

Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs.

Attend certification classes and training required for advancement.

Participate in emergency response and after-hours call-outs as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Required

High School Diploma or GED.

Valid Utah Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Ability to safely lift and perform physical labor.

Basic computer skills.

Must obtain and maintain applicable Utah Water Operator Certification within

a timeframe established by the District as a condition of continued employment.

Available to respond and be on location while on call within 45 minutes of all District

infrastructure.

Preferred

Experience in construction, farming, irrigation, mechanics, utilities, equipment operation,

plumbing, or related trades.

Experience using Microsoft Excel and other computer software.

Basic knowledge of pumps, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and maintenance

practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The District welcomes applicants from a variety of backgrounds. Qualified candidates may possess:

Water system experience; or

Construction, agricultural, irrigation, mechanical, utility, or public works experience;

or

Any combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the ability to

successfully perform the duties of the position.

Previous water system experience is preferred but not required.
