What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing QA Manager position at Bear Creek Arsenal?
Manufacturing Quality Manager
Bear Creek Arsenal is looking for a strong Manufacturing Quality Manager to lead quality control and quality improvement across our manufacturing operations. This position will focus on improving quality at the source by working directly with machining, barrel production, coating/finishing, inspection, engineering, production leadership, and purchasing.
This is not a desk-only quality position. We need someone who is comfortable on the manufacturing floor, understands precision parts, can read prints, use inspection data, identify root causes, and help production teams improve processes before problems reach assembly or the customer.
The right person will be hands-on, firm but fair, detail-oriented, and able to build a quality culture without slowing production unnecessarily.
Key Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Quality Manager will be responsible for:
· Leading quality control efforts across manufacturing departments
· Improving first-pass yield, reducing scrap, reducing rework, and preventing repeat defects
· Managing in-process inspection, final part inspection, and incoming inspection
· Working with production supervisors to correct quality issues quickly
· Using data to identify trends, recurring defects, and process weaknesses
· Developing and maintaining quality standards, inspection procedures, and work instructions
· Ensuring manufactured parts meet print, tolerance, fit, finish, and functional requirements
· Supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions
· Training inspectors, leads, and production employees on quality expectations
· Working with engineering on print clarity, tolerances, manufacturability, and quality concerns
· Helping improve supplier quality for outside processes or purchased components
· Supporting continuous improvement projects across manufacturing
Experience Needed
Preferred experience includes:
· Quality management experience in a manufacturing environment
· Strong understanding of CNC machining, precision parts, tolerances, and inspection methods
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
· Experience with calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators, CMMs, or other inspection equipment
· Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action, and process improvement
· Strong leadership skills and the ability to hold people accountable
· Firearms, aerospace, automotive, defense, metalworking, or precision manufacturing experience is preferred
Skills and Traits We Are Looking For
· Hands-on floor presence
· Strong attention to detail
· Practical problem-solving ability
· Ability to work well with production while still enforcing quality standards
· Strong communication skills
· Data-driven mindset
· High sense of ownership
· Ability to train, coach, and improve people
· Ability to make decisions quickly and professionally
