Beantown Rugby Football Club, a competitive and well-established women’s club based in Boston, seeks a head coach for both Summer 7s and Fall 15s. Please indicate in your application which role(s) you are interested in. Beantown will be competing in NERFU Division II in Fall 2026.
Position Overview
The Head Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and inspiring all players and supporting coaches involved with Beantown Rugby. This role focuses on building player skills, fostering a positive team culture, and preparing the team for competitive success while promoting the values of sportsmanship, inclusivity, and player welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
- Plan and deliver high-quality training sessions that develop technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.
- Provide individualized feedback to support player growth at all experience levels.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and competitive environment that encourages continuous improvement.
Game Preparation & Management
- Develop game plans and strategies.
- Lead the team during matches, making tactical adjustments as needed.
- Review match performance and communicate clear takeaways for players.
Program Leadership
- Build a strong, inclusive team culture that reflects the Club’s values.
- Mentor emerging leaders within the squad.
- Collaborate with Club leadership on long-term program development.
Recruitment & Retention
- Support recruitment of new players through outreach, community engagement, and collaboration with Club leadership.
- Help retain players by creating a positive, motivating environment.
Administration & Communication
- Communicate clearly with players, staff, and Club leadership regarding schedules, expectations, and updates.
- Assist with roster management, training plans, and season planning.
- Ensure compliance with league, union, and Club policies.
Required Qualifications
- Coaching certifications (e.g., USARFU Level 2 and/or World Rugby Level 1 or higher).
- Demonstrated rugby coaching experience (club, college, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of rugby laws, strategy, and player development.
- Ability to coach athletes of varying skill levels.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coaching women’s rugby specifically.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Knowledge in strength and conditioning or athlete performance.
Time Commitment
- 2 training sessions per week.
- Weekend match availability.
- Occasional travel for away matches or tournaments.
- Pre-season planning and postseason review.
Compensation
- A competitive stipend commensurate with experience, paid in installments.
- Range: up to $5,000 for Fall 15s, up to $2,500 for Summer 7s.
- Travel reimbursement (e.g. flights, hotel).
- Additional support may be available for coach development opportunities.
