Position Overview
Bean & Batter Co. is seeking an energetic, dependable, and hospitality-focused Barista / Bean Buddy to help create a memorable experience for our guests. This position is responsible for preparing premium iced lattes, refreshers, and other beverages while supporting waffle preparation, event setup, guest service, and overall cleanliness.
All Barista / Bean Buddies will be cross-trained in both Bean Bar and waffle operations, including how to prepare, cook, beautifully decorate, and present Bean & Batter’s signature sweet and savory waffles according to company recipes and presentation standards.
Our Bean Buddies are more than food-service employees—they are the face of the Bean & Batter experience. The ideal candidate is friendly, confident, organized, and able to provide excellent service in a fast-paced mobile catering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare premium iced lattes, lemonade refreshers, and other Bean Bar beverages according to Bean & Batter recipes and presentation standards.
- Properly measure and assemble espresso concentrate, milk, syrups, cold foam, flavorings, ice, and garnishes.
- Maintain consistent beverage quality, appearance, portioning, and flavor.
- Keep the Bean Bar stocked, clean, organized, and ready for service.
- Monitor ingredient levels and notify the event leader when items need to be replenished.
Waffle Preparation and Presentation
- Complete cross-training on the proper preparation of Bean & Batter’s sweet and savory waffle offerings.
- Safely operate waffle makers, timers, warming equipment, and other approved kitchen equipment.
- Prepare waffle batter and cook waffles according to established recipes, portions, temperatures, and timing standards.
- Arrange waffles in Bean & Batter’s signature presentation style.
- Beautifully decorate and finish each waffle using the correct toppings, drizzles, fruit, sauces, whipped cream, cheese, seasonings, and garnishes.
- Follow recipe cards and presentation guides to ensure every order is visually appealing and consistent.
- Maintain proper portion control and avoid unnecessary food waste.
- Assist with waffle production, toppings, packaging, and order handoff during busy service periods.
Guest Service
- Welcome each guest with a friendly, positive, and professional attitude.
- Assist guests with menu selections and answer questions about beverages and waffle offerings.
- Follow the Bean & Batter guest-service language:Greeting: “Hi, welcome to Bean & Batter. I’m [Name] Bean. What can I make fresh for you today?”Order announcement: “Order fresh off the press!”Guest farewell: “Thank you. Have a batter day!”
- Create an engaging and welcoming experience at weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, and community events.
- Handle guest concerns respectfully and bring significant issues to the event leader.
Event Support
- Help set up and break down the Bean Bar, waffle stations, tables, signage, equipment, and supplies.
- Refill ingredients, cups, lids, utensils, napkins, toppings, and service materials throughout the event.
- Help load, unload, organize, and safely transport equipment and supplies.
- Support other Bean Buddies to keep orders moving efficiently.
- Be prepared to rotate between beverage preparation, waffle production, decorating, guest service, and order handoff based on the needs of the event.
Food Safety and Cleanliness
- Follow all food-safety, sanitation, handwashing, glove-use, and allergen-awareness procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the event.
- Clean and sanitize beverage equipment, waffle makers, containers, utensils, tables, and service surfaces.
- Properly store and handle milk, batter, syrups, fruit, cold foam, toppings, and other perishable ingredients.
- Follow all local health department requirements and Bean & Batter operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous barista, restaurant, catering, hospitality, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
- Must be willing to complete cross-training in both beverage and waffle preparation.
- Must be friendly, dependable, professional, and comfortable speaking with guests.
- Ability to follow recipes, portioning instructions, cooking procedures, and presentation standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, organization, and food presentation.
- Must arrive on time and be available for scheduled events, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Food-handler certification is preferred and may be required after hiring.
- Must have reliable transportation to assigned event locations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry event supplies and equipment.
- Ability to lift approximately 30–40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work safely around hot waffle makers, warming equipment, beverage equipment, and heated food products.
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors depending on the event.
Dress Code and Appearance
Bean Buddies are expected to maintain a clean, polished, and professional appearance.
Required event attire may include:
- Bean & Batter polo or approved branded shirt
- Khaki or approved black pants
- Clean, closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes
- Approved Bean Buddy name tag
- Hair secured and properly restrained when necessary
- Limited jewelry and appropriate personal hygiene
Personal phones must remain stored during service unless needed for an emergency or authorized business purpose.
Performance Expectations
A successful Barista / Bean Buddy will:
- Arrive on time and prepared to work.
- Provide warm and respectful guest service.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both beverage and waffle operations.
- Prepare and decorate waffles that meet Bean & Batter’s visual and quality standards.
