Job Summary:

The CDL Class A Driver has the primary responsibility of the day to day execution of the logistics plan including, but not limited to, loading and unloading trucks, making both local and long-haul regional deliveries (including weekly/bi-weekly overnight stays) and intra company deliveries with a tractor trailer, filling, transporting and emptying daily/weekly wastewater hauls.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Executes the daily plan as set by the Logistics Manager.
  • Maintains safe levels of daily wastewater levels in tanks at the Cider Mill, Distillery, Hemp House and Cider House.
  • Climbs ladder, opens/closes hatches, checks water levels on all facility wastewater storage tanks. Load and unload trucks with electric hand jack.
  • Connects hoses and pumps from water tanks into tanker trucks daily.
  • Completes Onondaga County Waste Hauler Invoice for each transport.
  • Transports wastewater to waste facilities for pump station unloading.
  • Picks orders, load / unload trucks.
  • Executes local and internal company deliveries as well as regional and out of state deliveries requiring weekly/bi-weekly overnight stays.
  • Uses electronic logbooks effectively.
  • Conducts daily equipment inspections and gives input on maintenance requirements.
  • Completes light maintenance & adjustments on fleet vehicles. Includes but not limited to weekly cleaning & washing, greasing, replacing lights, fluids, other as applicable. Light maintenance including brake adjustments.
  • Completes required weekly reporting: Mileage logs, hourly tracking, submits expense receipts, etc.
  • Works with facility managers and warehouse personnel to adhere to all GFSI certification requirements such as SQF, Primus-GFS, organic separation standards, etc.

Minimum Qualification Standards:

  • Valid CDL Class-A driver’s license with tanker endorsement required.
  • Manual transmission competency required.
  • Must pass DOT physical.
  • Forklift experience required.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
  • Min. 5 years experience driving a tractor trailer with references.
  • Ability to deliver out of state with overnight stays.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to interact with co-workers, department heads, unit managers and vendors in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast paced, stressful environment.

Equipment, Machines Used:

This position requires the regular use of a Trucks, Tankers, Dump Trucks, Trailers, Flatbed Trailers, Refrigerator Units, Vans, Forklifts, Pallet Jacks, Loading Docks, Ladders and Hoses.

Mental Requirements:

  • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing and analyzing data and figures, using a computer terminal, and reading.

Physical Exertion:

Common: Hook, unhook trailers, load unload trucks with hand powered pallet jack, stack full boxes on pallets, shovel, spread sand / salt. Must be able to repeatedly lift full cases of product up to 55lbs. Climb ladder to service/wash trucks and fill/empty tankers. Light maintenance of trucks and trailers. Must be able to strap and unstrap flatbed loads efficiently and safely.

Schedule: Normal workdays are Monday – Friday. Saturday work is required during peak periods, especially in September and October.

Environmental Conditions:

Outdoor and Indoor Work: With exposure to temperature changes (e.g., unheated or uncooled warehouse, loading docks, coolers and freezers) and all seasons of outdoor weather conditions.

Travel:

This position requires occasional overnights and frequent out of state trips.
