Job Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for the integrity of product costing and inventory valuation across Beak & Skiff's manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer and working closely with the Controller, this role serves as the primary accounting resource for manufacturing and production teams — translating operational activity into accurate financial data. The right person brings strong technical accounting skills, a working knowledge of ERP systems, and the instinct to identify and solve problems before they become issues.
This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving, multi-entity environment. You will own cost accounting from the ground up — assisting the manufacturing departments with building and maintaining bills of material, setting standard costs, managing inventory, and supporting close processes — while serving as a trusted partner to cross-functional teams across the organization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Build, maintain, and update bills of material (BOMs) in collaboration with manufacturing and production departments.
- Set and maintain standard costs; analyze and explain variances to budget and standard across all product lines.
- Reconcile inventory values and oversee physical inventory counts; analyze results and assess impact on the income statement.
- Prepare cost of goods manufactured and cost of goods sold reports; maintain accuracy and consistency across entities.
- Execute standard cost updates and ensure timely reflection of input cost changes.
ERP Administration & Systems
- Support the maintenance and ongoing development of Acumatica, including system structure, workflows, back-end settings, and customizations.
- Identify and implement ERP improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and data reliability across accounting and operations.
- Serve as a point of contact for manufacturing and operations teams on ERP-related accounting questions.
Financial Reporting & Close
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with a focus on inventory, COGS, and production-related accounts.
- Maintain the integrity of intercompany transactions and reconciliations across Beak & Skiff's entities.
- Prepare audit-ready documentation and reports; present cost findings and variance analyses to management.
- Partner with the Controller and CAO to monitor key financial performance indicators and recommend process or cost improvements.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work closely with plant managers, procurement teams, and operations leadership to ensure financial data reflects operational reality.
- Advise management on costing decisions and the financial implications of operational changes.
- Assist in general ledger maintenance and contribute to financial statement preparation as needed.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Experience with Acumatica or a comparable ERP system strongly preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
- Equivalent combinations of education and directly relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong command of cost accounting principles, inventory valuation, and manufacturing accounting.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to work through complex data, identify trends, and communicate findings clearly.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities without losing accuracy.
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative in a dynamic, multi-entity environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interact professionally with colleagues, plant teams, and leadership.
- Ability to build and maintain recordkeeping systems and support documentation of policies and procedures.

Physical Exertion:
