Role SummaryWe are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the transition of products from R&D into production. This hands-on role involves assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and process improvement of our data logger and sensor cable products. You will work closely with design engineers, assemblers, technicians, and contract manufacturers to develop your skills in manufacturing engineering while contributing to product quality and cost reduction initiatives.
What You Will DoSupport Product Launches- Help develop work instructions and assembly documentation for new products
- Assist with pilot production runs and document lessons learned
- Support training of production staff on new assembly processes
- Investigate production failures using troubleshooting tools, like multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Learn and apply root cause analysis methods (5 Whys, fishbone diagrams)
- Document quality issues and help implement corrective actions
- Work with suppliers to qualify alternate components and reduce supply chain risk
- Read datasheets and identify equivalent parts for electronic and mechanical components
- Communicate with contract manufacturers on prototype builds and component questions
- Analyze bills of materials (BOMs) to identify cost reduction opportunities
- Track component costs and calculate savings from design or supplier changes
- Collaborate with R&D to suggest lower-cost alternatives that maintain product performance
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
- 2-4 years of relevant experience (internships and co-ops count)
- Some hands-on experience with assembly or testing
- Comfortable using basic test equipment: multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes
- Familiarity with engineering documentation: BOMs, assembly drawings, and ECOs (engineering change orders)
- Basic understanding of electronic components (resistors, capacitors, connectors, cables)
- Proficiency with Excel for data analysis and cost tracking
- Exposure to CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) is helpful
- Methodical approach to troubleshooting technical problems
- Willingness to learn structured problem-solving techniques
- Ability to document findings clearly and communicate with team members
- Comfortable working with technicians, assemblers, and engineers from different disciplines
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly in writing and verbally
- Team player who asks questions and seeks guidance when needed
- Experience with production testing or test fixture development
- Exposure to quality systems (ISO 9001) or manufacturing process documentation
- Familiarity with environmental testing (temperature, vibration, moisture)
- Python programming skills for data analysis
- Interest in outdoor, Arctic, or extreme environment applications
- Hands-on role with significant time in lab and production areas (60-70% of time)
- Occasional visits to local contract manufacturers may be required
- Reports to Engineering Manager
