Commercial Collections Specialist
The Commercial Collections Specialist is responsible for managing B2B accounts within the supply chain industry, ensuring timely collection of outstanding invoices while maintaining strong relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders. This role focuses on reducing aged receivables, resolving billing discrepancies, and supporting overall cash flow across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of commercial accounts, including general contractors and subcontractors
- Follow up on outstanding invoices through calls and emails to ensure timely payment
- Review aging reports and prioritize collections based on project timelines and risk
- Resolve billing discrepancies related to job costing, change orders, retainage, and lien waivers
- Track and manage retainage balances and release timelines
- Work closely with project managers, billing, and accounting teams to resolve payment issues
- Negotiate payment terms and plans while maintaining strong client relationships
- Document collection activity and maintain accurate account records
- Support month-end close, cash application, and reporting processes
Qualifications:
- Experience in commercial collections, preferably within construction, supply chain, or a project-based environment
- Understanding of construction billing practices (AIA billing, retainage, lien waivers, progress billing)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and projects simultaneously
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Sage, HighRadius, or similar)
