About the Role
Our client is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting, and help build the financial foundation of a rapidly growing organization. This individual will play a key role in developing scalable processes, implementing effective internal controls, and ensuring compliance while partnering closely with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting leader who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to improve financial operations in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Experience supporting lending, financial technology, or other regulated financial businesses is highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Lead all core accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, month-end close, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting processes that support a regulated business environment.
- Oversee accounting related to lending operations, financing arrangements, and other complex financial transactions.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Product, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis to support business decision-making.
- Coordinate external audits, tax compliance, and relationships with auditors and external advisors.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting processes to improve scalability and efficiency.
- Prepare financial reporting and analysis for executive leadership, the board, and investors as needed.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience within financial services, lending, fintech, or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience accounting for complex financial products or lending operations.
- Experience with ERP systems, financial reporting platforms, and business intelligence tools.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with reporting or analytics platforms such as Power BI, Looker, or similar tools.
- Demonstrated success managing month-end close, audits, compliance, and financial reporting.
- Experience building or improving accounting processes within a high-growth organization.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple business functions.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- CPA designation is preferred but not required.
