Job Title: Software Developer Specialist
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Months Contract (Extension up to 3 years possible)
Role Overview
The Software Developer Specialist will support AI initiatives by transforming proof-of-concept (POC) solutions into scalable, production-ready web applications. The role focuses on building enterprise AI systems for transportation engineering workflows, including plan review automation, roadway asset detection, and digital delivery platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy scalable AI/ML-based applications for enterprise use
- Convert experimental AI models into production-grade solutions
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
- Design and implement microservices using Python and cloud technologies
- Deploy ML models using MLOps frameworks and best practices
- Work on computer vision, NLP, and LLM-based applications
- Implement automated data pipelines and model monitoring systems
- Optimize models using techniques like pruning, quantization, and distillation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into engineering workflows
- Ensure security, compliance, and governance standards for public sector applications
Required Skills
- 8 years'' experience in:
- Cloud Platforms (AWS / Azure / Google Cloud Platform / OCI)
- DevOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible)
- CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Databases (SQL NoSQL / Vector DB)
- Scripting (Bash, PowerShell)
- 3 years experience in:
- Python (primary development language)
- NLP / LLMs (GPT, BERT, transformers, RAG)
- Computer Vision (OpenCV, YOLO, PyTorch/TensorFlow)
- Time Series & Recommender Systems
- MLOps tools (MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow)
- Distributed training (multi-GPU setups)
- Feature engineering / feature stores
- Model optimization techniques
- Hands-on experience:
- Deploying ML models into production environments
- Building real-world AI/ML applications serving end users
Preferred Skills
- GIS / Geospatial data analysis
- Transportation / Smart City domain experience
- Computer vision in infrastructure or vehicular systems
- Public sector or compliance experience
