What are the responsibilities and job description for the Per Diem Registered Nurse position at Beacon Pediatrics?
Beacon Pediatrics brings together seven experienced Pediatricians who have been providing primary pediatric care to the families of the South Shore for over 20 years. Per Diem positions available with commitments of 1 shift per month/1 holiday per yr/2 flu clinics per yr.
Position Overview: The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. The RN reports to the Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing telephone triage to patients and their families
- Reviewing and reconciling list of medications with patients
- Initiating prescription refill requests for provider review and processing
- Prescription management tasks including processing prior authorizations
- Documenting patient requests for referrals and notifying provider through the referral workflow process
- Communication with patients and families regarding lab results, medication administration, and home care advice
- Providing patient education regarding common childhood illnesses, medications, expected courses of treatment and general medical advice
- Patient care follow-up for ER or Specialist visits
- Documenting in medical record efficiently and accurately
- Direct patient care including but are not limited to stocking, preparing, and cleaning exam rooms, rooming patients, taking appropriate vital signs (including rectal/temporal temperature, height, weight, blood pressure) and performing vision and hearing screenings
- Draws and collects blood samples from patients through venous draws, finger sticks or heel sticks as back up to phlebotomists
- Performing in-house CLIA-waived testing procedures for strep throat, COVID, flu and processing urine samples
- Using proper techniques and procedures for hazardous waste disposal, universal precautions and body mechanics
- Monitoring, ordering and stocking supplies under the direction of the Nurse Manager
- Maintaining medical equipment and office equipment
Requirements:
- Valid nursing license in the state of MA - Current CPR/BLS
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a nurse, preferably in pediatrics, triage, or emergency setting
- Experience working with children and infants is required
- Knowledge of EPIC electronic health record system is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and make quick decisions
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
