What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assessment Psychologist / Pediatric Neuropsychologist position at Beacon Light Psychological Services?
Beacon Light Psychological Services (BLPS), a private-pay practice in downtown Portland, Maine, is hiring a part-time Assessment Psychologist / Pediatric Neuropsychologist. You’d start at about four evaluations a month, and the role can grow into a full-time position.
The role is open to licensed psychologists (PhD or PsyD) in Maine, including those trained in pediatric neuropsychology, clinical, school, or counseling psychology.
Why BLPS
- No prior authorizations, test-hour caps, or insurance-driven limits. The referral question and your clinical judgment guide the battery.
- Referrals come from families and a strong network of outside referral sources in the community.
- Our practice administrator handles scheduling, intake forms, and sending rating scales.
- Our report template is built to be genuinely useful for parents and providers, including a one-page summary of key findings and recommendations.
- You’ll have access to an extensive test library and ongoing consultation and case review with a pediatric neuropsychologist.
- As the practice grows, there are opportunities in program development, supervision, and leadership.
Founded in 2022, BLPS is committed to high-quality care, responsiveness, and evaluations that translate insight into meaningful action for families. We value evaluations that are practical: comprehensive in scope, focused on real-world questions, and built around clear, actionable recommendations for families and schools.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical, school, or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program
- An APA-accredited predoctoral internship
- A postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology or assessment with a pediatric focus
- Licensed as a psychologist in the state of Maine
- Extensive experience assessing neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, and learning disorders
- Strong communication, timely responses and report completion, accurate documentation, and the ability to work well with others
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Board certification (or eligibility) through ABPP or ABPdN
- Experience evaluating adults or older adults
- Interest in program development and training interns/fellows
- Experience working in a private or group practice setting
Position Structure
This part-time W-2 role begins at approximately four comprehensive evaluations per month, and it has the potential to become a full-time position. There may be opportunities to supervise practicum students. Maintaining a small psychotherapy caseload is optional.

- Collaborate with teachers and outside providers as clinically indicated
- Participate in case review, team meetings, and community outreach and marketing efforts
