SUMMARY

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides recovery-oriented peer support services to individuals by developing trusting, supportive relationships and drawing upon shared lived experiences with mental health, substance use recovery, the mental health system, and/or forensic experiences. This role is responsible for helping individuals identify strengths, establish and achieve recovery goals, develop natural support systems, identify recovery strategies and treatment options, and connect with community resources. The Certified Peer Specialist may also facilitate recovery groups, participate in educational presentations, and maintain required agency documentation while continuing to develop knowledge and skills in recovery-focused practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Be a self-identified individual who is in recovery and who has received or is receiving state priority group services
• Have maintained, within the past three years, at least 12 months of successful full or part-time paid or voluntary work experience or one year of post-secondary education
• Completed and passed a Certified Peer Specialist certification training program including written examination, which is offered in accordance with guidelines defined by OMHSAS, DPW. If considered for this position, this agency will assist in training coordination and cost.
