What You’ll Do

As a Health Insurance Specialist, you’ll play a key role in helping patients understand and access their benefits while supporting efficient departmental operations. Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing patient records and insurance benefits to ensure required treatments are authorized and covered.

• Obtaining prior authorizations by collaborating with providers and clinical staff.

• Verifying insurance eligibility and documenting approvals.

• Monitoring insurance policy updates and medical necessity criteria.

• Auditing billing records and correcting documentation errors.

• Serving as a liaison between the department and insurance companies, Patient Accounts, Medical Records, and patients.

• Coordinating administrative tasks, maintaining documentation, and educating patients on insurance coverage.

Who We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

• Associate’s degree or equivalent certification in medical billing, coding, health information technology, or a related field required.

• Minimum of 1–2 years of related experience in insurance verification, prior authorizations, or a healthcare support setting.

• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance processes.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and current billing/coding standards.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills to work with patients, providers, and insurance companies.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.

• Proficiency with EHR systems, insurance portals, and standard office software.

• Able to manage sensitive patient data with professionalism and confidentiality.
