What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Monitor position at Beacon City School District?
BUS MONITORS
This work involves responsibility for the routine supervision and care of school-age children as well as the maintaining order on school buses, supervising the conduct of problem students and interceding in student altercations.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Monitors students in parking lots and supervises the loading of buses;
- Accompanies students to and from school to maintain order on buses;
- Supervises and/or attempts to calm students;
- Informs superiors of observations of student behavior;
- May assist in rendering first aid in emergencies.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to get along well with school-age children and command their respect;
- Good observation;
- Personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position;
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position:
- Standard #1: Bus Steps - 3 trips up & down the bus steps in 30 seconds
- Standard #2: Door - Manually open and close entrance door 3 times
- Standard #3: Emergency Exit - From Driver Seat and out Exit in 20 seconds
- Standard #4: Weight Drag - 125 lbs 30 feet in 30 seconds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications
$17.20/hour
Candidates must pass NYSED School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test
and Background Check per NY State Requirements
