Behavioral Health Technician

Beacon Behavioral Health LLC
Mesa, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 7/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/3/2026

Can you hold a room? We're not looking for someone to read worksheets out loud. We're looking for someone who can walk into a group of adults working through recovery — some skeptical, some tired, some there because a court told them to be — and get them talking, laughing, thinking, and coming back. If people naturally open up to you, if you know how to turn a lesson into a conversation, this role was written for you.

Who We Are

Beacon Behavioral Health is an outpatient behavioral health clinic in Mesa serving adults navigating mental health, substance use, and co-occurring challenges. Our Intensive Outpatient Program is built around connection — including a culturally grounded, Wellbriety-informed curriculum that honors each client's story, background, and path to recovery.

We're a growing, founder-led team, which means your voice actually carries here. Good ideas get implemented in days, not quarters. You'll work directly with our clinical leadership, and if you have ambitions in behavioral health — pursuing licensure, moving into case management or program leadership — we build people up rather than boxing them in.

Our Culture

  • Real connection over clinical distance. Clients can tell when staff are going through the motions. We hire people who show up as humans first.
  • Energy is a clinical skill. An engaged group heals faster. We treat facilitation as a craft and invest in the people who take it seriously.
  • Culturally responsive by design. We serve Native American communities, veterans, and justice-involved adults. Humility and curiosity about people's backgrounds aren't optional — they're the job.
  • Small team, no bureaucracy. You'll never be a badge number. Wins get celebrated, struggles get supported, and leadership knows your name by day one.
  • Growth is the plan. We're expanding into school-based services and new partnerships. Joining now means growing with us.

The Role

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct care, skills training, and group facilitation to adults in our outpatient and IOP programs, promoting recovery, wellness, and self-sufficiency in alignment with AHCCCS AMPM guidelines (including 320-T1, 320-P, 320-O) and organizational policies.

But here's what the job actually is: you're the person our clients see the most. More than the therapist, more than the case manager. Whether their treatment feels like something happening to them or something happening with them often comes down to you.

Group Facilitation & Client Engagement — The Heart of This Job

  • Facilitate skills-training and psychoeducation groups that clients genuinely look forward to — using discussion, storytelling, activities, humor, and real-world application rather than lecture-and-worksheet delivery.
  • Bring curriculum to life: adapt written material into interactive sessions that meet clients where they are in energy, literacy, culture, and readiness for change.
  • Read the room and adjust in real time — draw out quiet members, redirect dominating voices, and re-engage clients who are checked out, without shaming anyone.
  • Build authentic rapport that keeps clients connected to treatment: greet people by name, remember their goals, notice their wins, and follow up on what matters to them.
  • Track group engagement and attendance patterns, flagging disconnection early to the treatment team before a client drifts out of care.
  • Co-create group culture — norms of respect, honesty, and humor — so the room itself becomes part of the therapy.

Direct Service Delivery

  • Provide individual, group, and family skills training, behavioral interventions, and supportive services per each person-centered service plan.
  • Help clients build independent living skills, coping strategies, and healthy social behaviors they can use the day they walk out the door.
  • Support clients in working toward recovery goals and addressing social determinants of health (housing, employment, transportation, community).
  • Reinforce therapeutic activities and treatment goals as directed by the clinical team.

Crisis & Risk Management

  • Recognize and respond to behavioral health crises calmly and per agency protocols.
  • Assist with safety planning and de-escalation, pulling in supervisory or clinical support when needed.

Care Coordination & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with case managers, therapists, peer supports, and external providers so clients experience one connected team, not a hand-off chain.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, staffings, and supervision — your read on client engagement is data we rely on.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Document all services accurately and promptly in the EHR per AHCCCS AMPM 900-series documentation and billing standards.
  • Ensure services align with authorized service plans and required consents are on file.
  • Maintain full compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational confidentiality and safety policies.

Quality Improvement & Training

  • Participate in quality improvement activities (chart audits, outcome monitoring, client feedback reviews).
  • Complete required trainings per AHCCCS and agency policy (CPR/First Aid, cultural competency, trauma-informed care) — and bring what you learn back into the group room.

Who Crushes This Role

The qualifications below get you in the door. These traits are what make someone great here:

  • A natural connector. People open up to you — at work, at family gatherings, in line at the store. You're genuinely curious about people's stories.
  • Comfortable in front of a group. Maybe you've taught, coached, led a ministry group, run a 12-step meeting, performed, trained coworkers, or been “the one who keeps the group text alive.” You know how to hold attention and make content land.
  • Energy that lifts a room without exhausting it. Warm, real, and steady — not performative.
  • Unshakeable respect for clients. You see the person, not the diagnosis or the case file. Lived experience with recovery — personal or family — is welcomed and valued here.
  • Creative with material. Hand you a dry lesson on coping skills and you'll turn it into a discussion, a role-play, or an activity people actually remember on a hard day.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health-related field preferred.
  • Meets AHCCCS qualifications for BHT (minimum years of relevant experience or education per AMPM 310-B).
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups, teaching, coaching, or leading engaging sessions — in behavioral health, education, peer support, fitness, ministry, or comparable settings. Be ready to tell us about a time you won over a tough room.
  • Valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations, using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches.

Working Conditions

  • Outpatient clinic environment with potential for community-based services (home visits, community agencies).
  • May require flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends, to meet client needs.

Why Beacon

  • Direct mentorship from experienced clinical leadership — including structured supervision and skill-building in group facilitation.
  • A clear runway for growth as we expand programs, sites, and school-based services.
  • A culture where your personality is an asset, not something to flatten into a clinical script.
  • The chance to be the reason someone stayed in treatment.

Compliance

This position complies with AHCCCS requirements, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational policies regarding patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care. Beacon Behavioral Health LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
