JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Elementary School Principal
Reports to: Superintendent
Employment Status: Administrative Contract Position
I. Position Summary
- Provides leadership, administration and supervision of the educational program of the High School
II. Required Education, Experience & Qualifications
- MA Degree; Appropriate Ohio Administrative Certificate
- Meet all current requirements of the Ohio Department of Education
- Meet all health requirements mandated by law
- Satisfactory completion of the BCII and FBI background check
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle license
III. Job Responsibilities & Duties
Instructional Leadership
- Establishes a school culture that embodies the district mission statement, promotes
- academic excellence, and demonstrates respect for learners
- Promotes the building of a school learning community
- Provides leadership for the evaluation and improvement of the school’s instructional program
- Interprets the school philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures and programs to students, staff, community and Board of Education
Staff Personnel
- Assigns duties to the assisant principal in a manner that maximizes the utilization of that individual's potential and ability
- Assists with the interviewing and selection of builing staff
- Assigns staff to maximize individual potential and skills
- Evaluates the performance of the building faculty and staff
- Recommends action regarding staff contracts to the Superintendent
Curriculum & Instruction
- Reviews student progress as it relates to the achievement of curriculum goals
- Builds a master schedule that will provide each student the maximum benefit of the school’s educational program and that makes optimum use of the qualifications and talents of the professional staff
- Directs the guidance counseling program in consultation with the Director of Pupil Services
- Plans for professional growth and development of staff
- Ensures the articulation of educational programs within grades and between grades
Pupil Personnel
- Communicates and implements, in cooperation with the Director of Pupil Services, special education laws, policies and procedures
- Ensures that the students have a well balanced activity program designed to stimulate growth and development by supplementing and enriching the curricular and extracurricular activities
- Supervises the maintenance of student records along with providing accurate and efficient procedures
- Assists with and/or participates in the building Intervention Assistance Team (IAT)
- Develops and implements a code of conduct and attendance procedures that will enable the school to function efficiently with a minimum of confusion and conflict
School Community Relations
- Promotes and maintains constructive relations and effective communication with building, district and community
- Encourages staff participation in school activities
- In coordination with the Superintendent, keeps the public informed of the school program activities and services
- Promotes parent/community involvement in the school through Parent-Teacher Organization and other support organizations
- Conduct school tours for potential families or residents as requested by the Superintendent/designee
Resource Management
- Develops with the assistance of the building staff, efficient procedures for internal school operation
- Implements and maintains an efficient and equitable budget for the building based on the needs of each level/department and the available resources
- Approves all purchase orders for building supplies, equipment, materials and maintenance
- Adheres to budget allocations and monitors all building accounts and records in conjunction with the Treasurer’s Office
- Develops policies for safeguarding equipment and property and enforces the observance of all laws including fire drills, tornado drills and other safety procedures
- Ensures the efficient use and coordination of building facilities in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Operations
- Maintains a healthy, safe building environment and makes necessary maintenance requests and recommendations for physical improvements and security measures
- Directs the efforts of the custodial staff in consultation with the Director of Operations toward the efficient and effective maintenance of the building
Other Functions
- Implements and monitors all Board policies and procedures
- Ensures that state minimum standards are properly interpreted and met
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent

V. Personal & Professional Conduct Requirements
- The employee shall exercise honesty and integrity in their relationship with the Board of Education and the administration.
- The employee shall follow any applicable licensure code of conduct.
- The employee shall immediately report known and suspected misconduct of their co-workers or violations of Board policy and procedure by their co-workers. The employee shall actively support the efforts of the Board of Education, Superintendent, and Treasurer/CFO in the pursuit of the District’s mission, goals, activities, and interests.
- The employee shall not disrupt District operations or undermine the District’s mission, goals, activities, and interests.
- The employee shall interact in a positive manner with staff, students and the public and promote a positive image of the District through exemplary personal and professional conduct by:
Communicating clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with tact, diplomacy and excellent grammar;
Demonstrating intercultural awareness and cultural competency;
Using effective listening skills; and
Remaining free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse and the influence or aftereffects thereof in the workplace or at school events and activities.
VI. Physical Demands
Ability to hear and speak, read and write, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer and other equipment, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead – above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies, ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
