What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESG Auditor position at BDO Belgium?
Audit beyond numbers. Shape the future of ESG assurance at BDO.
Looking to combine your audit expertise with the future of sustainability reporting? As an ESG Auditor, you’ll continue building on your financial audit foundation while stepping into the fast-evolving world of ESG assurance.
You’ll work on both financial audit engagements and non-financial assurance assignments such as CSRD reporting, carbon footprints and ESG KPIs. This role is perfect for auditors who enjoy variety, want to keep growing, and are curious about sustainability topics without leaving the assurance profession behind.

What will you be doing?
At BDO, ESG assurance is about more than checking compliance. It’s about helping organisations build trust and transparency around their sustainability reporting while applying the same critical audit mindset you already know.
- Perform ESG assurance engagements – Work on limited assurance assignments related to ESG information such as CSRD sustainability statements, greenhouse gas emissions and ESG KPIs, under the guidance of experienced ESG and audit managers.
- Apply your audit expertise in a new context – Use familiar audit concepts like risk assessment, materiality, evidence evaluation and professional skepticism on non-financial and sustainability-related information.
- Review and challenge ESG information – Analyse ESG data, methodologies, assumptions and calculations to assess whether disclosures are properly supported, consistent and reliable.
- Engage with clients on emerging topics – Gain insight into clients’ ESG processes, governance structures and sustainability reporting flows while discussing complex topics in a pragmatic way.
- Contribute to the integration of ESG within audit – Support audit teams in planning, executing and documenting ESG-related assurance work.
- Keep learning and evolving – Gradually develop expertise in ESG frameworks and standards such as ESRS, CSRD and the GHG Protocol through hands-on experience, coaching and training.
