Piping Principal Designer
Work Location: Greenville, SC
Duration: Long Term
Hours: 40 hours per week, with options for up to 10 hours extra for emergent projects/needs.
Key Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work as described below.
- Prepare and check designs of advanced complexity utilizing 3D modeling and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools
- Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
- Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
- Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines
- Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations
- Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including review of vendor submittals
- Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
- Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Associate degree 15 years related experience
- Knowledge of federal (DOE), state, and local codes/standards
- Strong communication skills across all project stakeholders
- Advanced discipline codes knowledge and compliance capability
- Intermediate MS Office proficiency
- Significant EPC experience on large industrial projects
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and 2D CADD in multi-discipline environments
- Technical Requirements:
- Read/interpret/generate design drawings independently
- Prepare complex 3D layouts and schematics
- Drafting/design background in piping, electrical, mechanical, structural, or related fields
- Proficient in Bentley MicroStation - originate/produce drawings with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) - minimum 3 years experience
- Produce/check complex piping drawings (plot plans, isometrics, sketches)
- Support construction and pipe fabrication teams
- Preferred:
- ASME NQA-1 nuclear facility design experience
- DOE or federal government project experience
- Nuclear QA program experience
- P&ID interpretation and updating skills
- Knowledge of piping components, materials, and costs
- Intergraph SmartPlant Review software experience
- Understanding of piping design requirements (arrangement, layout, stress, materials)
- Practical field experience
Physical Requirements:
The candidate might periodically be required to travel to sites, requiring the ability to travel by vehicle to the site and complete walkdowns. Walkdowns may necessitate walking, standing, and navigating industrial terrain, and will require some occasional climbing, crouching, and the ability to lift up to 50lb and wear PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, etc. The candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Clarity of vision for use of computers and reading drawings/designs is also required.
