Job Overview


A top-tier law firm is seeking a State & Local Tax Associate Attorney with less than three years of experience to join its Dallas, TX office. The selected candidate will handle sophisticated state and local tax controversy, planning, and transactional matters involving multistate and national legal issues.


This State & Local Tax Associate Attorney role offers substantial mentorship, advanced legal training, and meaningful involvement in complex tax strategy matters from the beginning of an attorney’s career. Associates in this practice are given direct exposure to partners, clients, and high-level strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities


• Conduct extensive legal research related to state and local tax controversy and transactional matters

• Analyze multistate tax regulations, statutes, and compliance frameworks

• Draft high-quality memoranda, legal briefs, correspondence, and tax planning documents

• Assist clients with state tax disputes, audits, administrative appeals, and controversy matters

• Support transactional tax planning and advisory work involving complex business structures

• Collaborate directly with partners and senior attorneys on strategic SALT matters

• Participate in tax planning projects involving multistate and national operations

• Handle research-intensive assignments requiring analytical precision and problem-solving abilities

• Contribute to both litigation-related and advisory tax matters

• Manage multiple assignments efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment

Qualifications


• J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

• Less than 3 years of relevant tax law experience

• Demonstrated interest in state and local tax law

• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

• Strong organizational and time-management skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment

• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

• Ability to handle sophisticated legal issues with attention to detail and professionalism
