BCForward is currently seeking a highly motivated Software Design Engineer 5 opportunity with our client.


Title: Software Design Engineer 5

Duration: 2 Months (Possibility of Extension)

Location: Hybrid - 2-3 days onsite, Redmond WA


Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

Job Type: [Fulltime] (40 Hrs. Weekly)], [Contract], [Onsite/Hybrid]

Pay Range: $70/hr to $85/hr on W2

Please note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.).

Typical Day in the Role

• Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to focus on security hardware and intellectual property. Their work is primarily open source, with some potential for internal code review.

• Key projects: This role will contribute to independently developing, testing, and troubleshooting security-related hardware and software across Windows and Linux environments in the Azure fleet. The remaining time is split between technical collaboration, design and test reviews, and documenting results, requiring strong debugging skills and adaptability as priorities change.

Candidate Requirements

• Years of Experience Required: 8-10 overall years of experience in the field.

• Degrees or certifications required: N/A

• Disqualifiers: N/A. However, they need to be comfortable being flexible with the ability to switch between projects as needed. If they don't have that flexibility, they will not be a good fit.

• Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain Rust experience, experience with open-source projects,

• Performance Indicators: Performance will be assessed based on quality of work, meeting deadlines, and flexibility.

Top 3 Hard Skills Required Years of Experience

1. Minimum 8 years experience with test experience with data center/server hardware.

2. Minimum 8 years experience with development experience with C (and Python).

3. Minimum 2 years experience with understanding of CI/CD and ADO pipelines.

Summary:

The main function of a Software Engineer is to design, develop, implement, test, and maintain business and computer applications software or specialized utility programs including mainframe and client/server applications, and major enhancement of existing systems

Job Responsibilities:

• Fine-tune and improve a variety of sophisticated software implementation projects

• Gather and analyze system requirements, document specifications, and develop software solutions to meet client needs and data

• Analyze and review enhancement requests and specifications

• Implement system software and customize to client requirements

• Prepare the detailed software specifications and test plans

• Code new programs to client’s specifications and create test data for testing

• Modify existing programs to new standards and conduct unit testing of developed programs

• Create migration packages for system testing, user testing, and implementation

• Provide quality assurance reviews

• Perform post-implementation validation of software and resolve any bugs found during testing

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required

• 10 years experience required

• A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design

• large systems software design and development experience

• Experience performing in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing with both new and legacy production systems

• experience in programming and experience with problem diagnosis and resolution

  • Systems‑level development using C (with Python for automation) – 8 years
  • Server and data‑center hardware testing and validation – 8 years
  • Automated test and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps) – 2 years


Important Information:

Role Expectations:

- Strong development background required (C, Python, Rust).

- Testing experience still important but secondary to development.

- Work involves low-level firmware and device driver development, CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, and VM configuration.

Technical Environment:

- Hardware: Intel and AMD blades, ARM blade for testing.

- OS: Azure hosts (2022, 2024), Windows Server, and VM guests.

- Cluster and lab environments for validation.

Interview Process:

- Starts with candidate experience discussion.

- Includes a developer exercise to assess problem-solving and coding approach.

- Flexibility in language choice for coding exercise.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

- Strong in C and Python; Rust is a “nice to have” but willingness to learn is key.

- Data center experience preferred but not mandatory.

- Minimum 5–7 years of experience (flexible for exceptional candidates).
