The Impact You Will Have At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) serves as a strategic clinical leader and trusted advisor, providing expert guidance across the organization and engaging with key external stakeholders. This consultative role supports the development of clinical strategies that promote high-quality, cost-effective, care for our members. The ACMO partners with internal teams and external entities, including clients, providers, and regulators, to ensure clinical integrity and alignment with our mission to pave the way for everyone to achieve their healthiest life. Your Responsibilities Strategic Clinical Consultation Provide clinical insight and oversight to internal teams including product development, network strategy, analytics, and government programs. Advise on the design and implementation of clinical programs that support affordability, quality improvement, and member outcomes. Collaborate with enterprise leadership to ensure clinical considerations are embedded in strategic planning and operational execution. Stakeholder Engagement Represent Blue Cross MN in external engagements with employer clients, provider organizations, and regulatory agencies. Participate in client-facing meetings to communicate clinical strategy, performance metrics, and value-based care initiatives. Foster collaborative relationships with provider partners to support shared goals around quality, cost, and member experience. Clinical Governance & Oversight Support medical policy development and ensure alignment with evidence-based standards and regulatory requirements. Provide clinical oversight for utilization management, appeals, and complex case reviews. Participate in internal committees focused on quality, compliance, and clinical innovation. Thought Leadership & Communication Represent Blue Cross MN in select public forums, advisory panels, and industry collaborations. Monitor and interpret emerging trends in healthcare delivery, regulation, and innovation to inform organizational strategy. Collaborate on presentations, white papers, and briefings for internal and external audiences. Required Skills and Experience Accepting this position at BCBSMN requires signing an Employee Confidentiality, Intellectual Property Assignment and Restrictive Covenants Agreement as a condition of employment. MD or DO degree; board certification in a clinical specialty required. Active and unrestricted medical license. Minimum of 8 years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years in a payer, consulting, or health system leadership role. Demonstrated ability to communicate clinical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-clinical stakeholders. Deep understanding of healthcare economics, regulatory frameworks, and managed care operations. High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and Commercial insurance products. Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MHA) or equivalent experience in health policy, strategy, or population health. Role Designation Hybrid Anchored in Connection Our hybrid approach is designed to balance flexibility with meaningful in-person connection and collaboration. We come together in the office two days each week – most teams designate at least one anchor day to ensure team interaction. These in-person moments foster relationships, creativity, and alignment. The rest of the week you are empowered to work remote. Compensation and Benefits $240,200.00 - $324,300.00 - $408,400.00 Annual Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
