What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Staff Technician position at BCA Environmental Consultants, LLC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Technician will work as part of a team both independently and with other BCA staff and clients on various projects to provide support to our clients. They support Project Scientists and Project Managers in order for them to facilitate projects and serve clients. This position will also be responsible for supporting our wastewater laboratory operations to analyze and report results for client wastewater samples. BCA provides services to our clients through one-off projects and by managing the programs of our Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) clients on a contract basis, so this position requires excellent time management, efficiency and communication skills. They are a self-motivated problem solver with high attention to detail and capable of working independently and under the direction of senior staff to solve problems to ensure technical results and final products are accurate.
Job responsibilities assigned to Staff Technicians will include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Client project activities related to wastewater sampling, stormwater sampling, solid waste sampling and profiling, report, contingency plan and application preparation, maps, flow diagrams, client record keeping, waste and site inspections.
- Performing analytical tests on wastewater samples, accurately recording data and preparing lab reports.
- Administrative and marketing tasks per the direction of Managers which will include, but are not limited to, field supply inventory, database updates, writing work instructions, content writing for newsletter and website, and implementing automated business processes via Microsoft tools such as Teams and Power Automate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Skills proficient in Microsoft, Adobe and other related software.
- The ability to peroform analtyical testing and maintain lab equipment and instruments.
- The ability to perform field work, facility inspections, data collection, evaluation and conduct technical writing.
- The ability to manage a wide range of tasks and effectively communicate results.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- The ability to read and interpret environmental regulations in waste, air, and water.
- Working knowledge of chemistry, biology and analytical methodologies.
- Proficient in math
The ideal candidate would have:
- Experience interpreting environmental regulations in waste, air, and water and implementing compliance actions.
- Experience writing SOPs, programs and/or compliance plans.
- Experience with creating automations in Microsoft Power Automate
- Experience using Microsoft Teams, Forms, Vizio and other non-traditional Microsoft applications
- Experience using Adobe Pro
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma and attending post-secondary school; or Associates Degree.
- 0-2 years of professional experience within an environmental or analytical discipline
