Job Summary
The Vet Tech III will work under the direct supervision of the Veterinary Director and assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, and immunizations. The Vet Tech III will assist with the on the job training of the Veterinary Technician team. The successful candidate should have experience in a primate facility and knowledge of regulations pertaining to non-human primates.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care for the animals while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- Act as a point person for the Veterinary Technician team.
- Assists with the training of the Veterinary Technician Team.
- Conduct clinical observations for hospital and colony animals, to include assessment of outdoor group housed animals
- Assist veterinarians in all aspects of clinical care to include administering treatments, radiology, ultrasounds, surgery, and necropsy
- Assess, record and report animal health
- Collect samples and prepare samples for shipment
- Assist Behavior Team with observations and assessments, maintain enrichment plans to ensure behavioral health of animals
- Maintain all hospital areas in a neat and sanitary condition, updating required logs
- Maintains inventory - restocking treatment/procedure rooms as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned
Education and Experience
- 3 years of non-human primate experience
- Veterinary Technician certification or AALAS certification at the LAT level
- High school diploma or equivalent
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of animal health and welfare
- Demonstrated experience with drug calculations, fluid rate calculations
- Attention to detail and the proven ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
